2012 – the last year of the mayans

So new year new predictions.
In general i would like to lead off with saying that the world is now at or approaching another step towards becoming a true type 1 civilization, and much like the era around the start of the millennium it is filled with tension, uncertainty and turbulence in more or less every area of life, be it technological cultural, political or what have you.

We saw last year that a lot of the old powerstructures are beginning to break up as exemplified by the arab spring, occupy movement and most recently the successful protests against SOPA/PIPA and this is likely to continue.
regarding technology a lot has happened just the last year, but i can’t help feeling like this is just the beginning of a new cycle of a new distributed form of hardware independent computing.
Anyway all this makes things somewhat complicated to figure out, but i will give it a try.

The Ps4?

So again theres the rumor going around that the ps3 is going to be presented at e3 this year, so nothing new under the sun except that it’s pretty early for those since they usually start popping up in april.
But this year it seems does have a really high chance of it actually appearing.
I don’t care what Pachter says, after all he did peg the next Wii for 2009, 2010 and 2011, so what does he know.

E3 2011 – Nintendo predictions

Nintendo has a lot of exiting things going on this year with the 3ds, wii2 and their game lineup, but i suspect that all is not well inside the company, they continue to have small dev teams, huge delays and frankly lackluster titles and that does not bode well when they are making the transition into the HD world, they have to make some pretty major internal changes and it better show in the press conference that they have this June 7:th at 9:00am PST (check you local timezones and watch it on gametrailers.com)

E3 2011 – Microsoft predictions

So E3 is just a few weeks from now so it’s about time to give my opinion on what i think each major console manufacturer are planning for the show, now this year isn’t easy for get a grip on what is going to happen given the announcement of the wii successor and the whole PSN thing, i wouldn’t be surprised if some of that spilled over to the other press conferences.
First out is Microsoft on June 6:th at 9:00 am PST (i find it easier to just set up another clock with Los Angeles time and go by that than trying to convert it to my timezone).

What is Web 3.0

Indeed what is web 3.0, if you read wikipedia you will read a short segment about the “semantic web” which is essentially about making human readable pages machine readable as well and vise versa. But to me that doesn’t sound that three-point-oh-ish, especially if you take in consideration that 2.0 is all about collaboration and sharing, in my mind you have to use some common factor to quantify what version it is. While 2010 was the year that android matured trough it’s early childhood, this year will be all about market saturation, we will see it grow with 3.0 and become something more than ios could ever be.

2011 what year it will be part 1

Welcome to my predictions for 2011, for this year i decided to change the format a bit to make it more readable, more specific and a bit less vague, so this year I’m doing a top ten and two top fives, both for gaming and for the other stuff, which incidentally requires me to use two posts, otherwise you would be reading it for quite some time. so today we start with games, and in about a week or so the rest, and after that i have something planned that i know you all been waiting for, if i finish it soon then the first two months of 2011 would be pretty full for this site. 2010 the year that was

2010 the year that things happened, a oil well leaked, gays can serve in the military (the us one that is, we have had it for ever), i got a second stomach and lost about 20Kg or 44,09245243697552lbs give or take a pund or so. the tech market also expanded as we saw the first 3D tvs along with a crap load of android devices.

There is a quote on the top of the front page that say something like ” if you don’t have any white plastic on your device your some kind of retard” poetic words from penny arcade said five years ago referring to ipods and other devices, but looking at the 2011 CES those words hold true today only you have to change “white plastic” to “black plastic and android”, they had it running on everything from phones, tabs, tv sets, cars, refrigerators, headphones and so forth. OpenGL wishlist 4.0: the slot model

Time for a fourth wish-list this time i will go into more detail about one specific thing i like OpenGL to adopt, while clarifying a few things about two oldies, perhaps for openGL 5.0 but who knows.

The slot model

This model should be seen as a vision on how to unify Data and shader management within openGL, especially regarding texturing as a lot of details is actually already implemented on the geometry side, this is mostly written against the new openGL 4 specification but i make no promises of conformity.

There are three main bits to this model, these are data, slots and shaders.
Each part are separate but still connected, especially the first two.
